He Was An Argonaut: Ellison Kelly

May 17, 1935 – February 11, 2016

The “Gentle Giant” passed away peacefully on February 11, 2016 at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with dementia with his loving family at his side. Ellison is pre-deceased by his parents, Maggie and John, and his wives, Donna (1989) and Sheila (2014). Loving father to sons Jude and Jerry, and daughters Karen (Ty Major), Claire (Anthony Harmon), Cathy (Rick Roscovich) and Claudette. Cherished ‘Papa’ to Karlyn, Stephanie, Jesse, Matthew, André and the late Samantha. He is survived by his sisters, Marilyn (Jean), Peony, Rita and Susan.
After an outstanding 13-year career as an offensive lineman for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Argonauts and New York Giants, Ellison was elected into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1992. After retiring, Ellison worked as a recreation officer at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre. The family thanks the staff and residents of Macassa Lodge for the love and care they have shown to him over the past two years. Honouring his request, cremation has already taken place.
Family and friends are welcome to Marlatt Funeral Home, 615 Main Street East, Hamilton, Ontario on Saturday, February 27, 2016 for visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with a Celebration of his Life to follow at 1:00 p.m. The family asks that those attending wear their favourite team colours.
