The ’71 Argos was a team that captured the imagination of the city of Toronto like no CFL team has before or since. A team “made up of characters with character,” huge on talent and with the swagger to match. This team may have been the most popular Argos team, but we like to think of these guys as the most notorious bunch of characters that ever played in the CFL. The team had such mystique, that a film “Mavericks: They were a The Story of the 1971 Argos” by Christie Callan-Jones was made and featured on TSN during the 2012 Grey Cup period.
These guys all loved the game of football, playing together, the city of Toronto and for a coach none of them (or the rest of us) will ever forget.
